Abstract:

Abstract

The global shift toward skill-based economies has exposed structural limitations in traditional academic identity systems that primarily track degree-based learning. India’s education reforms, particularly the introduction of the Academic Bank of Credits under the University Grants Commission framework, have enabled credit mobility across higher education institutions. However, this system largely focuses on formal academic programs and does not fully capture the rapidly expanding ecosystem of skill training, micro-credentials, and professional certifications.

This paper introduces the Trainee Identification Number (TID), a proposed digital identity framework designed to uniquely identify and track individuals across skill development programs, training institutes, certification bodies, and competency-based learning environments. The TID framework aims to create a unified skill identity layer that records training history, certifications, competency levels, and employability indicators.

Through conceptual modeling, system architecture design, and comparative analysis with the ABC ID ecosystem, this paper demonstrates how TID can strengthen credential transparency, reduce certification fraud, and improve industry verification of skills. The study positions TID as an innovation framework for the emerging skill economy, bridging the gap between education, training, and employment systems.
